After an initial attempt in 2022, Disaitek has been recognized as a Greentech Innovation 2025 laureate by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition in the sustainable agriculture and food category. This label validates our advanced radar technology for combating imported deforestation and supporting EUDR compliance.
From Second Attempt to Success
In 2022, we applied to Greentech Innovation in the circular economy category with our satellite imagery platform for detecting illegal waste dumps. While the technology was solid, it wasn't yet our moment. Fast forward to 2025: we've been recognized in sustainable agriculture and food—a category that truly reflects where we've evolved.
The difference? We've developed a unique radar technology that identifies deforestation and forest degradation with precision across tens of thousands of square kilometers. This capability has positioned us at the intersection of regulatory compliance and environmental protection.
Why Radar Technology Matters
Traditional forest monitoring relies on optical satellites that struggle with cloud cover—a significant issue in tropical regions where forests are most threatened. Our radar-based approach penetrates clouds, enabling continuous monitoring regardless of weather conditions.
The technology detects not just clear-cutting but also forest degradation—the subtle thinning and damage that often precedes total deforestation. This precision is critical for both regulatory compliance and conservation efforts.
EUDR: From Challenge to Opportunity
The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires companies importing commodities like cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, and wood to prove their supply chains are deforestation-free since December 2020. For many companies, this represents a significant compliance challenge.
Our platform addresses this by providing geolocation verification, historical analysis, and continuous monitoring—transforming what could be a regulatory burden into a manageable, data-driven process.
Beyond Compliance: Real-World Applications
While EUDR compliance is a major focus, our technology serves broader purposes:
Natural Reserve Surveillance: Protected areas face constant pressure from illegal activities. Our platform helps reserve managers detect unauthorized logging or encroachment in real-time.
Combating Illegal Mining: In Ghana and West Africa, illegal gold mining (known as 'Galamsey') devastates forests and pollutes water sources. Our technology helps authorities identify and track these operations.
Agroforestry Support: We monitor tree cover integration in agricultural systems, helping verify sustainability certifications and carbon credit programs.
What This Recognition Means
The Greentech Innovation label validates our technical approach and opens doors for collaboration with organizations committed to forest protection. It's recognition that technology can be a powerful tool in addressing deforestation—a problem that continues to claim 10 million hectares of forest annually worldwide.
For Disaitek, this marks a pivotal moment. We've gone from detecting local environmental violations to monitoring forests at continental scale. The journey from 2022 to 2025 reflects not just our growth, but the evolution of environmental technology and policy.
As regulations like EUDR reshape global supply chains and climate urgency demands action, forest monitoring technology will play an increasingly critical role. We're ready to contribute to that future.
